Celebrate life….the lives of those who have been victorious in their battle against cancer and remember those who have lost their battle to cancer. This candle lighting ceremony is a moving and spiritual part of the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life in Bluffton on Friday evening, June 23 at Bluffton University's Salzman Stadium. Lighted luminaries are decorated with the names of cancer survivors or those we have lost to the disease. Placed around the track just after dark, they light the way for walkers all night.
Luminaries can be purchased "In Honor of..." a cancer survivor or "In Memory of..." someone who has lost their battle against cancer. Anyone may attend the Luminary Ceremony and the Relay For Life.
The Luminary Ceremony will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 23 or as soon as it is dark. As hundreds of luminaries are lit around the track, you can imagine the feeling of reverence those attending will surely have. Last year over 500 luminaries were purchased in honor of survivors and in memory of those who lost their battle with cancer.
Each luminary is a $10 donation and there is no limit to the number of luminaries you can purchase. Click here for a Luminary Order Form.
DECORATE YOUR LUMINARIA - Each year hundreds of luminaries line the track "in memory" and "in honor" of loved ones. This year we are encouraging people to decorate their luminary with photos, balloons, flowers, poems, messages - anything at all. You may decorate your luminary on Friday night once it has been place on the track. We will try to have tape and scissors available, but you're welcome to bring your own also. You are not required to decorate your luminary - all luminaries will still be marked with the names as in previous years.
